Beloved Clara

St. Francis´ last letter to his Beloved

A completely new look at the life of St Francis and his relationship to the love of his life, Clara.

Francis is at the end of his life and decides to write to Clara. He reflects on his whole life and goes through his many developments. He realizes that he would choose differently in some instances. We experience the insights of a wise old man.

It is a book about loving a person wholeheartedly and loving God as well. How does one do that? Do the two forms of love exclude each other or is there a way of seeing and experiencing them together? Both Francesco and Clara have found a way.

He writes: “Clara, I have always loved you in my own way – with my sister skin and in the depth of my soul, with all my senses. I never got tired of thinking of you. In the end it is you I owe for having experienced the real god in my heart.”

The book is also a stunning description of a mystical faith. There is no exclusion. The whole world is seen as an expression of love.

The book challenges the standard picture we have of St. Francis and our own perspective of love.
